In this special offering of Brother Breathe, participants will have a safe space to express their feelings, learn coping mechanisms for dealing with grief and anxiety, practice mindfulness meditation, and creatively envision a more peaceful 2020. This interactive workshop is for Black boys and men 13 years and older.

Brenda Stevenson, professor and Nickoll Family Endowed Chair in History at the University of California, Los Angeles, and co-curator of Making Mammy: A Caricature of Black Womanhood, 1840–1940 examines how the legacy of the mammy stereotype lives on in the public imagination through film, entertainment, and advertising, as well as how it perpetuates falsehoods about African Americans.
